When to Visit Brist: Weather and Sea Temperature Month by Month

The Makarska Riviera has one of the sunniest climates in Europe, with around 2,600 to 2,700 hours of sunshine a year, and the swimming season in Brist runs from June to the end of September. Every month of that season is a good one for a sea holiday. What differs is the character of each: long light evenings, the warmest sea or calm, golden days. Here is what to expect, month by month.

June brings daytime temperatures of around 26 to 28°C and a sea of about 22 to 23°C. These are the longest days of the year, light until well into the evening, and the hills above the village are still green and fragrant, with wild sage and lavender in flower.

July and August are the heart of summer, with daytime highs of around 30 to 31°C, very little rain and the warmest sea of the year, about 25 to 26°C. In the afternoons the maestral, a steady breeze from the northwest, cools the coast and makes the heat easy to live with. Evenings stay warm enough to eat outside until late, and the village is at its liveliest with summer events. Brist stays calm even now, and there is always room on the beach.

September keeps daytime temperatures of around 25 to 27°C and a sea that is still about 23 to 24°C, warmed by the whole summer. The light turns golden, figs and grapes ripen, and the days are made for long swims and slow lunches in the shade.

May and October sit on either side of the season. Days are mild, around 21 to 23°C, perfect for hiking Biokovo, cycling or day trips to Dubrovnik and Split. The sea is around 19 to 21°C, fresh but swimmable for many. October is also olive harvest time in the groves above Brist.

From November to April Brist has a mild Mediterranean winter, with daytime temperatures that rarely fall below 10°C. It is a quiet time for long walks by the sea and a glimpse of everyday village life.
