Getting there is easy. Medjugorje is about an hour by car from Brist, down the coastal road and across a single border crossing into Bosnia. Bring your passport or ID card, as you are leaving the EU. In the quieter months of spring and autumn the crossing is usually quick, while summer Saturdays can mean a longer wait, so an early start pays off.

Medjugorje has drawn millions of visitors since 1981, when six local children reported visions of the Virgin Mary. At its heart stands St James Church, and above the village rise two gentle climbs: Apparition Hill (Podbrdo), where the first visions were reported, and Cross Mountain (Krizevac), crowned by a large white cross.
